Old Skool Fridays:"Gangsta Foe Life" - Death Threat
SS Staff are taking advantage of our free time.. So while our schedule is not that hectic.. we gonna give you another Old Skool Fridays.. and this time we got (Death Threat) Hi-Jakkk - Gloc-9 who is undeniably one of the best and influential rap group that turn into a duo in the history of Philippine's Hip-Hop/Rap scene.. With their Gangsta to Horrorcore style.. they took the country by storm in 1997 through Death Threat's 3rd album "Kings of the Underground" which is technically considered a Hi-Jakkk Gloc-9 album due to the absence of the group's main man "Beware" even though the concept and music is backed by DT and RMK and pics of the group was still on the inlay.. The fans were surprised to this sudden change plus the fact that this is the first appearance of the group's then newest member Gloc-9 who is equipped with the tongue twist style of rapping.. which is a skill that not too many can achieve or acquire at that time... The album contains tracks with subject matter that tackles from Religion, Corrupt Officials, Crime and of course Gangsta Rap where the group is well known off. and it is easily accepted by the listeners specially on the streets where you can hear this album on almost every block playing.. Proof of this is the Gold (or Platinum) record award... and not to mention the style of rapping that Gloc-9 initiated is adopted by a lot of Aspiring or Upcoming Rappers today... Too bad the duo didn't last after Hi-Jakkk Gloc-9 released 2 Domination album (that's on another issue)..Hi-Jakkk released numerous projects under his Apocalypse Records including his "Solo Album", Then Gloc-9 already released 3 albums and receiving commercial success to this day.. I know a lot of us wanting for the DT or H-G9 reunion.. Let's just hope and wait and see what will happen next for the moment lets' just relieved the days and music of one of the best duo that came out here in P.I... Here's "Gangsta Foe Life" !!!

Through the years: The Early Days of SoulSonic
Yes. Kung nakikita nyo yung date sa upper left, it says "June 1999". We started as a "Pass it around" newsletter back then dahil na rin sa kakulangan ng infos about our local scene.
3rd issue: "Dec. 1999". Dito nagsimula yung "ghetto trademark" namin na artwork cover courtesy of Dj Decypher. Pati yung logo nag-iba narin,na gawa pa ni RGA (of Fung Zhoi rap group). Urban Flow ang featured artist that time, na ginagawa pa nila yung 3rd album nila.
Ang aming 6th and last issue ay lumabas noong "September 2000". Meron ding interviews kina LowKey atbp.
Puntahan natin yung mga rap and hiphop events.Kung may entrance, e pag ipunan nyo! Ipagdiwang natin lahat ng good vibes sa eksena natin. Much props to Drive-by Show of Andrew E,Word Up of Francis M, Blow up the Spot, Mars, DMC, MegaMall, Winners-Malate, at lahat ng mga classic spots at happenings!

Old Skool Fridays: "Biscocho Massacre" -Urban Flow
On our last issue of old skool fridays we featured H-Bom and after that we received requests for this group to be put on the spotlight here at Old Skool Fridays.. The group that im talking about is no other than "Urban Flow" who is considered as the original rap balladeers in P.I...which consists of Sunny Blaze, Wilzone, Dj Arbie & Dj Flux.. They released their debut album "Test da Flow" in 1995 under OctoArts Records.. and the album reach the Gold Record status.. With their radio friendly hits such as Ms. Pakipot, Balaleng, and Lumayo Ka to name a few of their songs that was played on the local airwaves.. single after single... almost half of the 10 track album was aired and not to mention the TV guestings specially on noontime shows where they became "Suki" to the extent that it will make you wonder and say Urban Flow again ?.. and turn off the boob tube.. Anyways on this album, most of the tracks are for the ladies or can be called "Harana Rap" on our local lingo.. but there are also funny storytelling tracks like Handkerchief Girl, Kapcop and our featured track Biscocho Massacre which is most likely a spoof of "Visconde Massacre".. For me this track stands out from the other tracks in the album because of it's sound, content and dual dj scratching of Dj Flux & Arbie .. Listen to this cut and it will make you go to the nearest Bread Shop... Enjoy !!

Old Skool Fridays: "Mr.Disco"- H-Bom
Old Skool Fridays is back !!! and for this issue we got H-Bom (Sketch) whom we featured last year on Whatever Happened to ? (link) segment.. We saw that he is now busy doing shows on Las Vegas performing cover songs from Usher to Montell Jordan.. Now we gonna feature a track from his sophomore release (3rd album including the 1st group album) "Pwede Ba?" that is released in 1998.. This is the album that leads to what Sketch is doing right now.. It consists of 10 tracks.. most of them are renditions or sampled and commercial tracks.. he even did a Tongue Twist rap style (Bone-Thugs Style).. He really pushed himself doing POP tracks on this album trying to reach a larger audience (masa) which he successfully did with the rendition of "Next In Line" as single that became staple on the airwaves for months... After a year Sketch released his 3rd and last album to date.. Anyway here's Mr. Disco by H-Bom
